In Spanglish and Spanish, BOLD PAC, the electoral arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), seeks to expose extremist Republicans and those most attached to former President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement.
This effort will occur with the “Our Lucha War Room” campaign, which this Thursday made public its first ad in this regard featuring Republican Kari Lake, a Senate candidate for Arizona.
The target list includes 11 other Republicans considered extremists, who are running against Democrats in key districts.
In addition to Lake, BOLD PAC will disseminate information on Senator Rick Scott (Florida); as well as congressional contenders David Valadao (CA-22), David Schweikert (AZ-01), Young Kim (CA-40), Michelle Steel (CA-45), Don Bacon (NE-02), Yvette Herrell (NM -02), Mike Erickson (OR-06), Monica de la Cruz (TX-15), Mayra Flores (TX-34) and Joe Kent (WA-03).
Regarding Lake, the first ad from the BOLD PAC exposes its position against abortion rights, in addition to defending Trump’s theory about fraud in the 2020 elections, despite the fact that courts dismissed lawsuits due to lack of evidence.
“I think most Americans don’t believe that Joe Biden got 81 million votes… it’s a fantasy,” Lake is heard saying.
Democrat Rubén Gallego is running in Arizona against Lake and is one of the candidates endorsed by the BOLD PAC.
Misinformation towards Latinos
The campaign highlights that the new effort “is backed by a six-figure budget” and its drive seeks to combat “misinformation directed toward Latinos.
BOLD PAC has two goals with its strategy: to expose “Trumpist Republicans for their extreme and anti-Latino agenda” and, at the same time, boost the candidates it supports.
“We are delighted to announce ‘Our Lucha War Room,’ to expose the disinformation machinery of extremist Trumpist Republicans,” said Linda Sánchez, president of BOLD PAC. “They are determined to do anything to gain power and misinform Latino voters, including spreading lies about reproductive rights, taking credit for laws they themselves voted against, doubling down on voter suppression tactics and undermining our democracy”.
Sánchez, who is also a representative of California’s 36th District, considered that the Latino population “deserves better representation.
“Latino voters deserve better representation and not lying Trumpist Republicans whose extreme anti-Latino agenda is taken straight from the Trump playbook. “Our community deserves a diverse Congress that reflects the values and experiences of all of us,” he said when justifying the campaign.
Why a digital campaign?
BOLD PAC’s efforts will focus on digital platforms, such as YouTube, in Spanglish and Spanish in response to the report that 63% of Latinos in the United States speak Spanglish and 86% of them use YouTube.
“There is a lot at stake in these elections and more than 36 million Latinos are eligible to vote, more than half of whom are Latinas,” the BOLD PAC noted. “Our Latino community deserves access to accurate information to make informed decisions and the best way to fight the extremist Republican disinformation campaign is to hold them accountable for their lies.”
BOLD PAC endorses 15 congressional candidates, 14 of whom are Latino.
