Ben Wang will be the protagonist of the new film in the saga of “The Karate Kid”

The actor Ben Wang24 years old, has been selected to star in a new film in the saga of “The Karate Kid”which will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle and produced by Sony Pictures.

Wang, known for the series Disney+ “American Born Chinese”was chosen in a casting that Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan (who starred in films in the series) announced three months ago. The new film will be about a young man (Wang) who comes to the United States from China and is interested in learning karate.

In the film Macchio will once again play the character Daniel Larusso and Chan will play Mr. Han. Filming could begin this spring, as the US premiere is scheduled for December 13.

The success of the film series “The Karate Kid” led to the television series being released in 2018 “Cobra Kai”which depicts the adventures of Larusso and his old rival Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). The production of a sixth season was recently announced, which will premiere on the platform Netflix.

As for Ben (who was welcomed by the production through Instagram), he is fluent in the Mandarin Chinese language, in addition to practicing karate, taekwondo, kempo and kung fu. In 2010 the film “The Karate Kid”starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith, grossed more than $176 million in the United States and Canada. And with the new film it is planned that a new generation will join the extensive group of fans it generated “Cobra Kai”.
