A 26-year-old man, who arrived in the United States from Niger on a student visa, violated the terms of his status in the country, resulting in Now he will not only lose his legal stay but also faces several months in prison.

Moctar Ahmadou Gouroudja Ahmadou entered the United States on March 24, 2016 after having been admitted to the country with the F-1 nonimmigrant visa to study in University of North America. The young man received a sentence of 78 months in prison for illegally transporting and possessing a firearmwhich is not allowed with his status, according to the newspaper La Nación.

Ahmadou handled and fired a gun at a shooting range in Texas. Then, he paid for an instruction course and rented a gun. In May 2021, he returned to that field, but now with a rifle. In turn, he was in a firearms safety and shooting handling course.

“He owned and fired a Smith & Wesson Model MP15 .223 rifle and purchased and possessed four boxes of .223 Fiocchi caliber ammunition, which he used with the rifle,” Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities indicated about his behavior.

All of this history led to an investigation by the Houston Department of Homeland Security (HSI), the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, among other institutions.

With the clues, they discovered that not only were there violations with firearms, but that the young man spoke with someone associated with the 2020 Corpus Christi Naval Air Station attackdownloaded videos about Islamic Jihad and discussed the possibility of taking a trip to Palestine.

After collecting that evidence and after due process, the young man He was sentenced on February 1, 2024 to more than six years in federal prison for firearms crimes.. Since then, he has been and will remain in US custody.

Other reasons why a visa may become inadmissible in the country are: the visa was issued in some fraudulent way or was used for purposes other than those for which it was issued; there is suspicion of the foreigner’s criminal intent; unauthorized employment; suspected violation of status; visa requirements are no longer met; revocation after a crime.
