Mexican authorities found a man of American nationality who was being held in a cabin located in a remote area of the state of Quintana Roo.
The victim, identified as Joseph Constantine Buonincontri35 years old, had his eyes covered with adhesive tape, in addition to being bound hand and foot.
The man was found in a cabin made of natural materials, also known as huano, in a remote place in the jungle, according to the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office.
A video broadcast on social networks by Diario Cambio 22 shows the moment of the rescue by elements of the Mexican Armywho provided support to members of the National Guard and the Quintana Roo Police.
In the images, the American citizen is heard answering some questions from the soldiers, to whom he indicates, among other things, that he did not know how many days he had been held captive and that he had resided in New York City, although he currently lived in Quintana Roo.
According to statements from the authorities to local media, The victim had been kidnapped three days before his rescue in the community of Limones, a remote town almost 200 miles southwest of Cancún.
According to Diario Cambio 22, the rescue occurred on February 6 when they received a citizen report at a military post about the presence of a taxi from the municipality of Tulum entering a breach with three armed individuals on board.
This is how an operation was carried out at the indicated location, finding the cabin with the victim inside, which was located a few meters from where the taxi was seen.
According to the newspaper Reforma, The captors had fled when Buonincontri was rescuedbut they left traces of marijuana, a tactical vest and AR-15 rifle magazines.
