HOUSTON – Disagreement for a New rule targeting cell phone use at Houston Independent School District’s Madison High School caused some students to walk out of classes in protest this week and now these students could face disciplinary action.
The School administrators decided to ban cell phone use on campus after a series of fights that were allegedly sparked by content that was being shared on social media.
Madison Principal Mike Miles warned that students who participated in the protests could face serious consequences.
During the district’s administrative meeting this Thursday, Miles noted that suspensions for students who decide to leave their classes are a possibility.
This Monday, the new rule was implemented in Madison that requires students to hand over their cell phones to the office to prevent them from being used during lunch hours. Students can retrieve their cell phones at the end of the school day.
The measure was implemented due to the notorious number of fights that broke out in the school hallways and the cafeteria, which later appeared on social networks.
