According to government reports, in recent weeks the crossing of immigrants across the Texas border has decreased, as those seeking to enter the United States without proper documentation now do so through areas detected in Arizona and California.

While in December, the border patrol recorded nearly 250,000 immigrant apprehensions between ports of entry along the southern border; In January the figure was reduced by half.

In fact, at the Texas border crossings, specifically on the borders between Del Río and Ciudad Acuña, the second region with the highest activity related to immigration last December, Undocumented crossings have decreased.

On average, of the nearly 2,300 immigrant crossings that were recorded daily in that area, the Border Patrol reported that, during the week of January 29 to February 4, only 200 occurred daily.

Meanwhile, In the El Paso and Río Grande Valley sectors, 716 and 536 were registered, respectively.

In more remote and desert areas such as Lukeville, Arizona; and Jacumba Hot Springs, California, the presence of undocumented immigrants has also increased.

Much of the decrease in immigration in Texas is related to the work of strengthening the border carried out by the National Guard, which has dedicated itself to setting up barbed wire and concertina wire barriers, as well as containers in areas that were previously used. to evade Border Patrol surveillance.

According to Biden administration officials, the decrease in immigration is also related to actions implemented by the Mexican government in solidarity with the United States.

However, In the Tucson, Arizona sector, bordering Sonora, Mexico, the average number of immigration arrests was 1,816 daily; while, at the border crossings in San Diego, California, the figure was $1,213.

According to the Border Patrol, at the beginning of the year, both areas have been the most traveled by people trying to enter the United States.
