The Democratic National Committee ordered billboards to be placed attacking Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. for having received a generous donation for his campaign as an independent presidential candidate from a millionaire who also supports Republican candidate Donald Trump Trump.
Kennedy Jr.’s former party colleagues were upset after Data presented by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) revealed that, last year, the American Values Super PAC, a group aligned with the 70-year-old former Democrat, received $15 million from Tim Mellon.
The controversy arises because the megadonor, owner of a powerful company linked to transportation, almost at the same time He allocated another $10 million to MAGA Inc., a Super PAC aligned with Donald Trump.
In this regard, Alex Floyd, director of Rapid Response of the DNC, issued a statement defining Kennedy Jr. as an ally of the Republican Party under the guise of an independent candidate.
“RFK Jr. is not fooling anyone, he is powered and funded by the same extreme MAGA donor as Donald Trumpand Trump’s allies have already called him a useful agent of chaos in this election.
Michiganders deserve better than a stalking horse for extreme MAGA Republicans,” he said regarding the campaign that the nephew of the former president assassinated in 1963 is carrying out in the Great Lakes state.
In this sense, The DNC ordered billboards to be placed with messages aimed at calling into question the alleged label of independent candidate with which RFK Jr. presents himself. during his rallies.
The advertising messages show a photograph of Kennedy on the left side and Donald Trump on the right, while in the center appears the legend “RFK Jr. powered by MAGA Trump. Same major donor, Timothy Mellon.”
In addition, The DNC also filed a complaint with the FEC, alleging that hiring signature-gathering vendors and helping Kennedy appear on ballots in states like Michigan and Illinois violates federal election laws.
However, the real reason behind the Democratic criticism of the independent candidate is that, according to the results of some polls, his campaign and those of other third-party candidates such as Cornel West or Jill Stein, are taking votes away from Joe Biden, which directly favors Donald Trump who, at this moment, would win the elections under this scenario.
