After his arrest at the Grammys, Killer Mike received good news. The rapper revealed that after he was taken out of the 66th Grammy Awards in handcuffs He found out that his son would receive a kidney transplant that he had been waiting for for a long time.
In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Killer Mike spoke about the rollercoaster of emotions he experienced last Sunday when he also won three Grammys.
“I took a couple hours, man. I was alone and I was grateful that I took the time to thank God and say, ‘I appreciate the blessings you have given me,’” he said. “I was glad I used those three hours to thank God, be calm and meditate because “The next morning I got a call saying that my son, after being on the list for three years, finally got his kidney.”he added.
The 48-year-old rapper said he feels grateful for the blessings he received in such a short time. “I’m thankful. Not only because I won, but I am grateful that God showed me in 24 hours that there is something more important than even praise, which is my family and my son,” he assured.
On Sunday, the rapper took home awards for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the 66th Grammy Awards.; However, shortly after, two police officers took the rapper out of the ceremony in handcuffs.
Why was the rapper arrested?
At the time of the rapper’s arrest, the reason why he had been detained was not known; However, on Monday, andhe Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) shared details about Killer Mike’s arrest with Entertainment Tonight.
“On Sunday, February 4, shortly after 4 p.m., an adult male was detained and handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred in the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court. “The suspect was arrested and transported to LAPD Central Division,” police said.
The LAPD indicated that the suspect had been identified as Michael RenderKiller Mike’s real namewho was arrested for misdemeanor assault and that he was released on bail.
This week, the rapper explained to Entertainment Tonight that his arrest was due to a misunderstanding. “As you can imagine, there was a lot going on and there was some confusion about which door my team and I should enter through. We found an overly zealous security guard,” Killer Mike said.
The rapper, who was arrested for a minor crime, assured that he trusts that the misunderstanding will be resolved and that he will be exonerated.
“My team and I are fully confident that in the end I will be free of all blame. Until then, keep listening to Michael and keep chasing his dreams,” he concluded.
Before these statements, The rapper had already addressed the incident on V-103’s Big Tigger program. “We had a roadblock and then we got back to the party, man,” said the rapper, who was initially hesitant to answer questions about the arrest.
Before being arrested, Killer Mike had won three awards at the previous gala. When asked if the arrest tarnishes his success at the Grammys, The rapper responded bluntly: “We won’t even let you ask that question.”
