The Chivas del Guadalajara began to dazzle their impatient fans by adding their second consecutive victory in the Clausura 2024 tournament of the Liga Mx which in the process allows him to end a twelve-year drought of victories in Las Tunas territory.
With a versatile style, but above all with an intensity that was proof against everything, the popular ‘Rebaño Sagrado’ prevailed over a tough opponent until achieving the second victory in a row with two goals from Víctor ‘Pocho” Guzmán that allowed them to climb several steps in the standings of the current championship.
Perhaps it is too early to dazzle a fan that has not been able to add a title to its showcases for seven years. after winning the Clausura 2017 tournament, beating the Tigres de la UANL in the grand final.
The closest the Guadalajara team came to the title in these six years was in the Clausura 2023 tournament when they were defeated by the same northern cats in the final duel with a 2-3 aggregate score that left the team led by the coach lying on the field. of Serbian nationality Veljko Paunovic.
Now in the present contest, when all the omens were negative against the management of the Argentine Fernando Gago after in the first three games he registered two draws to one goal against Santos Laguna and Xolos de Tijuana, as well as a defeat with Tigres de la UANL , in the last two games they have risen from their ashes.
Because after the victory over Toluca 3-2 in the middle of the week on matchday four and this Sunday’s 0-2 victory over Atlético de San Luis, things have changed and there is already talk that the red and white eleven will give a lot of to talk about in the rest of the days.
Twelve years of drought
For now, the victory in Las Tunas territory allowed Chivas to leave behind a drought of victories at the Alfonso Lastras stadium, since the last victory was on matchday five of the Apertura 2012 tournament, when they won 0-1 with a goal from Carlos Fierro.
As of that date, Chivas had not won in this stadium, registering a defeat in the Guardianes 2021 tournament with a score of 3-1 and two draws, the first on matchday 8 of the Clausura 2022 tournament with a final result of 2-2 and in matchday 2 of the Clausura 2023 tournament with a score of 0-0.
So for now and without exaggeration, Chivas is little by little chasing away the ghosts that could prevent the project of its new Argentine coach from being successful.
