Russia and the American space agency (NASA) reached a agreement to extend its cross flights to the International Space Station (ISS) until 2025announced this Thursday (12/28/2023) the Russian space agency Roscosmos.

“To maintain the reliability of the overall operation of the ISS” and ensure the presence of at least one representative from Roscosmos and NASA in their respective parts of the station, “we have reached an agreement with American partners in 2023 to extend cross flights until 2025″, he indicated in a statement collected by several agencies.

Two additional additions to this agreement had already been signed at the end of July and in December, the same source specified.

Moscow announced in July last year its willingness to abandon the ISS “from 2024”although it has several astronauts there and has a key role in the operation of that space station.

Russia intends to create its own space station, which, according to President Vladimir Putin, could begin operating in 2027, despite corruption scandals and recent failures suffered by the Russian space sector.

The ISS began to be assembled in 1998 and is considered a model of international cooperation between the United States, Russia, Japan and European countries. Initially, it was scheduled to stop working in 2024, but NASA now considers that it can continue until 2030.
