By issuing an emergency executive order, Eric Adams, mayor of New York, restricted the arrival of buses with hundreds of undocumented immigrants whose transfer is sponsored by the administration headed by Greg Abbott, governor of Texas.
The African-American politician announced that In the last month, more than 14,700 migrants have arrived in the city, many of whom did so thanks to the support that the Texan authorities provided them by offering them free land transportation and even air transportation.
However, Adams denounced that last week, in a single night, 14 buses arrived from Texas and dropped off the undocumented immigrants they were transporting at strategic points with the aim of creating a lack of control for the New York authorities.
Therefore, heThe executive order now established requires bus drivers who are aware of transporting immigrants bound for New York and whose fares are paid by a third party, to notify the authorities of the city in which they arrive at least 32 hours in advance. .
Another requirement that operators must meet is to provide the full number of passengers, identify how many of them are children, and whether they require shelter or other support upon arrival at the end point of their journey.
Transporters are also required to provide their name and the information of the vehicle with which they carry out their work.
In addition, they are reiterated that they can only drop off passengers in previously designated places and during specific times.
And since October of last year, when the state of emergency was declared due to the humanitarian crisis that erupted in New York, more than 160,000 people have requested asylum.
However, far from the problem being solved, Eric Adams expects an increase in the number of undocumented immigrants arriving in the coming days.
“New York City has begun to see another wave of immigrants arriving, and we expect this to intensify in the coming days as a result of Texas Governor Abbott’s cruel and inhumane policy,” he said.
Due to the complex situation, the 63-year-old Democrat joined the voices of Brandon Johnson, mayor of Chicago; and Mike Johnston, mayor of Denver, requesting federal help to confront the immigration problem in the entities they manage.
