Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Wednesday that His government had reached “important” agreements on the economy, security and migration with the United States.after conversations with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and senior US officials.

AMLO stressed that “now more than ever, a good neighbor policy is essential,” but did not give details on the agreements reached with the United States.

For his part, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in another message on the same social network, highlighted that the association between the United States and Mexico “it is crucial for prosperity and security” in both countries and “throughout the American continent.”

“We are committed to partnering with Mexico to address our shared challenges, including managing unprecedented irregular migration in the region, reopening key ports of entry, and combating illicit fentanyl and other synthetic drugs,” Blinken said in a statement. second message.

Previously, Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena, in brief statements to the media at the doors of the National Palace, described the meeting as “excellent” and said that at the meeting “we reaffirmed friendship, commitments, and joint work.”

Bárcena explained that, in the almost three hours of conversation, the issue of migration was addressed but also about the economic relationship between both countries and “the importance of reopening border crossings.”

“For us it is a priority,” said Bárcena.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the American delegation did not make any “particular” request regarding the reinforcement of immigration measures to control the flow of undocumented immigrants that has reached record numbers in the last year.

In this sense, he reaffirmed the interest in continuing to work together and announced that a joint work team will be formed with authorities from the United States, Guatemala and other countries in Central and South America to address this problem, who will meet at the end of next January.

The visit occurred when in the month of December there have been historic numbers of people seeking to enter the United States at the border with Mexico, where the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed on Tuesday the arrival of more than 2.2 million migrants from January to November.
