Cruz Azul did not qualify for the Liguilla and the board is making decisions for a restructuring facing 2024 in Liga MX.
The team scrapped five of seven signings it made just six months ago. This is also part of the new board of directors that the club has.
For the 2024 Clausura Tournament, Oscar Pérez left as sports director and coach Joaquín Moreno. There are also the arrivals of Iván Alonso as manager and Martín Anselmi as coach.
Jesús Dueñas and the Colombian Díber Cambindo are two of the players who will leave the cement club. Dueñas is waiting for a loan, while Cambindo will go to Necaxa.
Carlos Salcedo is another of the players who will not be on the team by the Mexican player’s own decision. He is expected to head to Major League Soccer in the United States or even return to FC Juárez.
Moisés Vieira also asked to leave the club after claiming to feel sad during the 2023 Apertura because he missed being in Brazil, according to ESPN.
The fifth player is Kevin Castaño, who was expected to remain in the club, but the Cement Machine received an offer from Krasnodar.
The club will stay in exchange for 70 percent of Castaño’s transfer for 7.5 million euros, with which Cruz Azul will retain 30 percent for a future sale of the 23-year-old Colombian national team.
The only reinforcements that would remain in the team would be the Colombian defender Willer Ditta and the Mexican forward Ángel Sepúlveda.
First reinforcement of Cruz Azul
Argentine Gustavo Piovi was announced this Friday as the new reinforcement of Cruz Azul in Mexican soccer for the Clausura 2024 tournament.
“From Buenos Aires to Mexico City. Gonzalo Piovi is a new Cruz Azul player. Welcome to your new home!” was the message with which the team received the defender who arrived in Mexico on December 17 to present medical examinations.
Piovi is 29 years old and works as a wing defender. He comes from his country’s Racing Club, with which he contributed to winning an Intercontinental Super Cup.
“I am a brave player, very strong in marking, who likes to be solid with the ball and come out playing. I characterize myself because of the confidence I have in defense and I hit the ball well. I know how to adapt to different game systems,” said Piovi upon his arrival in Mexico.
