Armed commando attack during posada in Mexico leaves 12 dead and 11 injured

Night of terror was experienced in Guanajuato, Mexico, with two multiple homicides that occurred during the night of Saturday and early Sunday morning in that state.

The first attack took place in the community of Salvatierra, where several young people who had fun and celebrated these December days during an inn, They were attacked by armed commando.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office and state authorities, reports indicate that 12 people died at the scene, one more died while being taken to hospital and at least 11 people were injured.

After this unfortunate event, a message has circulated on social networks photograph of the young people taken moments before the tragedy.

Through a statement, the municipal government indicated that the injured people were transferred to different hospitals in the municipality, without providing further details about their health status.

Meanwhile, Germán Cervantes Vega, municipal president of Salvatierra, announced the start of working together with the State Prosecutor’s Office to carry out the corresponding investigations.

“I condemn the unfortunate act of violence that occurred in the community of San José Del Carmen this morning. We are in complete readiness and coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office for the prompt clarification and arrest of those responsible. My prayers and those of my family are with the relatives of the victims,” Cervantes Vega wrote on his social networks.

The second attack recorded during the night of Saturday, took place in the municipality of Salamanca, very close to the popular María Tomasa Estévez Market, where A group of armed individuals attacked a barbershop.

According to the first reports, Subjects on motorcycles opened fire on the people in the establishment; as a result of the attack, at least four people lost their lives and two more were injured.

Given both unfortunate events, the Prosecutor’s Office, through its official communication channels, detailed that the pertinent investigations to clarify these massacres and find those responsible.

“In both cases, multidisciplinary work cells have been assigned, specialized in homicides, who will work immediately and permanently until the clarification and arrest of those responsible is achieved,” they said in a statement.

Until now, investigation agents and forensic experts remain at the crime scene.

Guanajuato, one of the most violent states in Mexico

Until December 2023, the entity recorded the highest number of intentional homicides, remaining one of the most violent states in Mexico.

The massacre of these young people during an inn in the municipality of Salvatierra adds to the tragic murder of six students from the Universidad Latina de México in Celaya, recorded at the beginning of December.
