Officers arrived and found the car 200 yards from the canyon wall, and to their surprise, they found Clark about 40 feet below the car in a ravine. When they saw that she was moving, they set up a command post and made a plan to rescue her from her.

Multiple agencies responded to the effort, including Life Flight Network, Nampa Police, Canyon County Paramedics, as well as fire departments and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

Authorities determined that the quickest way to get to Clark was on foot, so at 1 p.m. local time members of Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue They arrived at Clark and found her “conscious and alert.”

Search and rescue then took two hours to get Clark from where she was found to a location on Map Rock Road where medics were located. Finally, at 3 p.m., she made it to the ambulance, was evaluated at the scene, and then airlifted to an area hospital for further medical care.

Doctors who evaluated her believed she had been there “for at least a couple of days, and most likely since Tuesday, when her family last had contact with her,” Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue said.

“This is, frankly, one of the most miraculous incidents that I can remember in all my years in law enforcement, and it is a true testament to the strength and fortitude of Penny Clark,” the sheriff added, calling her rescue as “truly a miracle.”

Clark was last said to be recovering in a hospital with his family by his side.
