Al Nassr qualified for the semi-finals of the King Cup in Saudi Arabia this Monday after winning with authority against Al Shabab (5-2) in a match in which the Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo was present on the scoreboard with his 50th goal so far in 2023.

CR7 combined with his compatriot Otávio who served him the ball inside the area for the ‘7’ to define with a powerful low shot that beat the Korean goalkeeper Lim Seung-Gyu (m.74) to make the score 4-1. The Portuguese star threatened to celebrate with his usual “Siiiuuu” but, laughing, ended up hugging his teammates.

Al Nassr’s other goals came courtesy of Ivorian Seko Fofaná, Senegalese Sadio Mané, Abdulrahman Ghareeb and Mohammed Maran. For their part, Carlos Junior and Hattan Bahbri scored for Al Shabab, while Yannick Ferreira Carrasco missed a penalty when he slipped at the time of the penalty, when the game was 0-0.

A little less than two months before turning 39, Cristiano Ronaldo reached the impressive figure of 50 goals so far this calendar year adding his performances with his club, Al Nassr, as well as with the Portuguese National Team. In total, the Portuguese has 50 goals and 14 assists in 56 games played.

Since arriving in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo is experiencing a resurgence in his career after an unfortunate second stage with Manchester United. The Portuguese returned in 2021 to the Premier League team in which he shone before making the jump to Real Madrid in 2009.

Now, at Al Nassr, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has two seasons with 10 or more goals in the Saudi championship. In his first campaign he recorded 14 goals in 16 games played and this season he already has 16 goals in 14 games. He is the current top scorer of the tournament with a two-goal advantage over his closest pursuer: Aleksandar Mitrovic (14).

However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals have not been enough for Al Nassr to win the title in Saudi Arabia. In its first experience in the league, the Portuguese star’s team finished second with 67 points, five behind the champions Al-Ittihad, which for this campaign was formed, among others, by the Frenchmen Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kanté.

This season, Al Nassr is on the same path and after the first 16 rounds it is in second place behind the leader Al Hilal, which does not have the injured Neymar. On the previous date, both teams faced each other with a resounding defeat for the troops led by Cristiano Ronaldo.
