American actor Ryan O’Neal died at the age of 82, on December 8. For a long time he was estranged from his daughter. Tatum O’Nealbut now it reported that there was a reconciliation between the two in 2009, and although they did not see each other frequently, they maintained a cordial relationship.
In statements to the magazine Peoplethe 60-year-old actress remembered her father, with whom she starred in the 1973 film “Paper Moon”: “I feel great sadness about the death of my father. He meant a lot to me. He loved him very much and I know he loved me too. “I will miss him forever and feel very lucky that we ended on such good terms.”
Following the death of the actress Farrah Fawcett, who was Ryan’s partner for 18 years, he decided to contact Tatum, meeting with her in 2010 and declaring that he regretted not having taken care of his daughter long enough: “(Tatum) didn’t have anyone after the death of his mother. She didn’t love me and said I abandoned her, and so I did…Many hard things were done.”
Sean McEnroeone of three children Tatum O’Neal had with the tennis player John McEnroepublished on his account instagram in 2020 a family photo showing father and daughter, and accompanied it with the following message: “This is one of the most memorable photos of my life. The last time we were all together was on the 30th anniversary of “Paper Moon” in 2003. I was able to cry with gratitude that everyone in this photo is still alive and that we were able to meet again after so many years of hardship. “If the O’Neals can reconcile, really anything is possible.”
Ryan O’Neal had two children with Joanna Moore -Tatum and Griffin-, one with Leigh Taylor-Young and another with Fawcett. The actor’s volatile personality caused constant problems with the boys, leading to violence several times. In Tatum’s case, he laid out in his 2001 autobiography A Paper Life the physical and emotional abuse she suffered from Ryan, due to the latter’s drug addiction. She still holds the record for the youngest actress to have won an award. oscar (in the category of Best Supporting Actress, when she was only 10 years old), for her work in “Paper Moon”.
