Shohei Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers to join the list of Asian hitters who have worn the uniform of the Los Angeles team.
The first Japanese to join the Dodgers roster was Hideo Nomo, who arrived in the 1995 season at the age of 26.
In his first season with the team, Nomo had a record of 13 wins, 6 losses, an ERA of 2.54 and 236 strikeouts. With these numbers he won the National League Rookie award.
Nomo spent seven seasons with the Dodgers in two different spans. He also played with the Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays.
Chan Ho Park
The second Asian player to join the Dodgers was Korean Chan Ho Park. Park spent nine seasons in a Los Angeles uniform from 1994 to 2000.
He also pitched for the Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees.
Hyun Jin Ryu
Hyun Jin Ryu was another of the best Asian players the Dodgers had. Ryu was in six seasons and had his best campaign in 2019 when he came second in the Cy Young Award voting, leading the MLB in ERA with 2.32 and in ERA+ with 179.
