Elderly man beaten in apparent hate crime attack in Beverly Hills

An elderly man was beaten in an attack apparently motivated by a hate crime this Saturday morning in Beverly Hillsan incident in which a suspect was arrested by authorities.

In a press release, the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) reported that shortly after 9:00 a.m., officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon in the area of ​​North Rexford Drive and North Santa Monica Boulevard.

When the police arrived at the scene, they found to an elderly man with a laceration to the head who suffered after being hit with a belt, according to the BHPD.

Police said the elderly man was accompanied by his wife at the time the assault occurred by the suspect, who had no relationship with the victim.

“During the commission of the crime, the suspect made anti-Semitic statements to the victim,” Beverly Hills authorities reported.

The elderly man was attended to by Beverly Hills Fire Department paramedics on scene where the attack occurred and did not require transfer to a hospital.

After committing the attack, the suspect fled the scene before BHPD officers arrived.

“After a search by Beverly Hills Police Department personnel, an individual matching the description of the suspect was seen fleeing by a BHPD Senior Forensic Specialist“the police said.

With the information provided to them, police officers were able quickly locate, detain and identify the suspected attackerthe BHPD said in its statement.

“Our officers quickly apprehended the suspect and he is in custody. “This despicable act of hate against a member of our community will not be tolerated,” said Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook.

Police identified and arrested the suspect, who remains in custody.

Authorities identified the suspect as Jarris Jay Silagi, 44 years old and resident of Los Angeles.

The charges against Silagi include assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery, hate crime and elder abuse.

A man who claimed to be the son of the attacked elderly man published on social networks that his parents suffered the attack as they headed to shul (the Yiddish word for synagogue)text that was accompanied by a photograph of a shirt with blood.

The alleged attacker is in custody at the Los Angeles County Jail and has been arrested. a bond of $100,000 dollars.

Authorities said an investigation by BHPD detectives remains ongoing.

It is planned that Silagi will have his first appearance in court this Tuesday, December 12.

This Tuesday, December 5, a 60-year-old grandfather was beaten by a Hispanic man in Calabasas in an incident allegedly motivated by racial motives. The suspect was arrested the next day in the Oxnard area.

Apparently, the same subject struck moments after the first attack on a 14-year-old teenager also in the Calabasas area.

The two victims were of Asian American/Pacific Islander descent.
