Tornadoes cause at least 6 deaths and dozens of injuries in Tennessee

At least six people died in Tennessee due to tornadoes and strong storms who crossed the state on Saturday.

The deaths of three people were confirmed in MadisonTennessee, just north of Nashville, emergency management officials reported.

“We have teams assessing the damage and looking for patients,” the Nashville Office of Emergency Management said on X, formerly Twitter. “Unfortunately, we can confirm that there are three deaths as a result of the bad weather on Nesbitt Lane.”

Montgomery County Authorities They also confirmed three deaths, including that of a child, after a tornado hit the Clarksville area.

Authorities said they are still in a “search and rescue phase” to see if there are more deaths or injuries.

“This is a sad day for our community. “We are praying for those who were injured, lost loved ones and lost their homes,” Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden said in a statement.

Government officials in Sumner County said there were “significant damage” due to tornado that hit Gallatin and Hendersonville, Tennessee, northeast of Nashville.

“At this time, we are working to respond to multiple calls across the county and establish Red Cross shelters in Gallatin and Hendersonville,” said a joint statement from the communities’ mayors.

These were the first fatal tornadoes in the country since a tornado in Ingham County, Michigan, claimed two lives on August 24.
