Three teams show interest in signing Shohei Ohtani in free agency, according to reports

Shohei Ohtani remains one of the most important free agents of this offseason, but several teams are beginning to lower their bid to focus on other players.

According to a report from Jeff Passan, there are three teams that initially showed interest, but have decided to shift their attention to other players in free agency.

These three teams are: Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets.

Shohei Ohtani is expected to have contract offers above $500 million and some could exceed $600 million, a figure that would be a record in the Major Leagues.

For their part, there are three teams that are still in the bid to have the two-time MVP of the American League.

Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, and Toronto Blue Jays, plus the Los Angeles Angels who seek to keep their best player in the last four seasons.

The San Francisco Giants continue to show appreciation for Ohtani although it is unknown if they remain interested in the Japanese.

To date, the free agent signing with the largest contract has been Jayson Heyward with the Los Angeles Dodgers for nine million dollars.

There are still contract signings such as Matt Chapman, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, among other hitters.

According to bets, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites to sign the Japanese star to a team who wants to win the World Series again and overcome the challenge of the last two postseasons where they were in the first round.

This December the Winter Meetings will be held where agents and team owners meet ahead of free agency and the 2024 Major League season.

Until now, it remains a mystery what Ohtani’s new destiny will be, as he may even choose to stay with the Angels.
