The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates announced the dates and locations where next year’s presidential and vice-presidential debates will take place.
Three universities will serve as venues for events where Democratic, Republican and independent candidates will exchange their visions about the country they intend to build. in case of reaching the White House through the support of the citizens.
Until now, The first presidential debate is expected to take place on September 16 at Texas State University.in San Marcos, Texas.
Likewise, it was announced that the vice presidential debate will take place on September 25 at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania.
Regarding the second presidential debate, it is planned to take place on October 1 at Virginia State Universityin Petersburg, Virginia.
It is noteworthy that the aforementioned university will become the first historically African-American college or university to host an electoral debate.
This way, The third presidential debate is planned to be held on October 9 at the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In this regard, Frank Fahrenkopf and Antonia Hernández, co-chairs of the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, a nonprofit organization that has monitored general election debates since its formation in 1987, referred to the importance of holding presidential debates in facilities university students.
“In 2024, students at our four discussion sites will help bring another set of historical conversations to audiences here and abroad. And its campuses will provide four unique opportunities to listen and learn.
“The US general election debates, seen live around the world, are a model for many other countries: the opportunity to hear and see the main candidates address serious issues in a fair and neutral environment,” they noted through of a statement.
In addition to the participation of the Democratic and Republican candidates, during the presidential debates planned to take place next year He or independent candidates who are on the ballot in enough states to win a possible majority in the Electoral College, and if they have an average of at least 15% support in five national polls, may also participate.
