HOUSTON – Authorities announced the arrest of a lawyer and the case is one worthy of a drug trafficking movie.

Houston’s defense attorney, who was arrested, faces criminal charges for allegedly bringing drugs into the Harris County jail.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed González, 77-year-old Ronald Lewis was arrested after a long investigation because they had long suspected that the man was a major supplier of narcotics.

According to the prosecution, Lewis sprinkled synthetic marijuana on the documents he entered during his visits to inmates, then their relatives would send him payments through the CashApp mobile application.

The news was released after three inmates from the aforementioned prison died last week, two of them due to apparent medical causes, but the report from the Forensic Office is still pending.

Investigators are seeking to determine if any of the deaths could be related to drug overdoses. So far this year, 18 inmates, including a Hispanic woman, have died in the custody of Harris County authorities.
