Terence Crawford attacked the International Boxing Federation (IBF) after being stripped of his welterweight title for failing to complete the mandatory fight with Jaron Ennis, who will now be the new champion.
Speaking to a group of journalists after the weigh-in between Shakur Stevenson and Edwin De Los Santos at the T-Mobile Arena, Crawford showed his dissatisfaction with the decision made by the organization and he admitted that he doesn’t care because he managed to crown himself as indisputable, which was what he wanted.
“Man, damn the IBF! That’s what I’m saying. You know what I mean? Damn the IBF and its organization. I don’t give a damn, you know what I mean, the IBF. I was stripped naked almost two and a half months after (winning) my title, not knowing what was going to happen next. But it’s okay. I’m not mad at them, you know? I got what I needed and that was, you know, indisputable. And the rest is history. You know, I don’t care about any of that,” she said.
It should be noted that Terence Crawford cannot fulfill his mandatory duel against Ennis because, after being crowned undisputed champion after defeating Errol Spence Jr. by technical knockout in the ninth round, He must comply with a contractual clause that assures The Truth an immediate rematch.
“No contract for a Championship competition shall contain any clause or provision, of any kind, that guarantees or in any way assures or promises to any of the contenders a competition for the return Championship when such clause or provision interferes with the mandatory defense of a title. “Based on the above, the IBF has withdrawn recognition of Terence Crawford as the IBF Welterweight World Champion,” the IBF said in a statement.
For now, Terence Crawford will have to face Errol Spence Jr. in the rematch at the beginning of 2024 and defend his belts and then look for a superfight with Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, undisputed super middleweight championwith the aim of being crowned in a third different category as undisputed and continuing to make boxing history.
