Julio César Chávez thinks that Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, undisputed super middleweight champion, I should stop making a big deal out of it and take up the fight. with David Benavídez because not doing so could cause harm to people.

In an interview with ESPN’s Salvador Rodríguez, Chávez explained that Benavídez He is the official challenger of Canelo Álvarez by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and that’s why he has to face it because otherwise the fans are going to sue him.

“Canelo has to take the fight (with Benavídez), because he is the official challenger, and It’s a lot to get around (Benavídez). If that fight doesn’t happen, I think the one who is going to look bad is Canelo, because people are going to sue him,” said the Mexican boxing legend.

Let us remember that, according to Salvador Rodríguez of ESPN, Canelo Álvarez wants Jaime Munguía, mandatory challenger of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), for his first fight on May 5 in 2024, while David Benavídez He could be next only if he beats Demetrius Andrade to face each other in September.

Likewise, Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the WBC, once again confirmed that the Mexican Monster remains and will be ratified as the mandatory contender for Guadalajara if he comes out with his arm raised on November 25 in Las Vegas, a card he will share with his brother José Benavídez Jr. who will face middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

“This time we confirm that David Benavídez is the mandatory one. If he were successful against Demetrius Andrade, would be ratified as mandatory for the WBC championship” he declared at the 61st WBC Annual Convention in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

It should be noted that for a couple of years David Benavídez has sought in every possible way to get the attention of the man from Guadalajara, but he has never had a response. Although fans and many experts in the sport would like to see this great fight, Canelo Álvarez has not shown real interest and We will have to wait if in 2024 the Mexican finally fulfills his obligation with the WBC.

David Benavídez, WBC interim super middleweight champion, He comes from beating Caleb Plant last March and will defend his title again in November. The Mexican Monster has a record of 27 wins, 23 of them by fast track and no setbacks in his professional career.
