The Mexican selection will feature the participation of Julian Quiñones in Jaime Lozano’s process ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The Colombian-born soccer player is not the only exploding case of naturalization. Given possible derogatory comments, The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) defended the Club América forward.
Through its official website, the federal entity issued a statement in which sets its position on the role of footballers who have been naturalized and that now they can be part of the Mexican team. This statement is especially directed at Julián Quiñones.
“Article 30 of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States recognizes two ways of having Mexican nationality: by BIRTH or by NATURALIZATION. In matters related to rights or obligations, the Constitution makes no distinction between one and the other, except for elected positions”, explains the FMF in the statement.
In the same text, the Mexican Football Federation closes its point by motivating fans, analysts and other footballers to treat players who are part of the Mexican national team in the same way, whether they are born in Mexico or not.
“There are no ‘first-class Mexicans’, nor ‘second-class Mexicans’. We are all MEXICANS. Therefore, any player with Mexican nationality, with the soccer level and the desire to represent Mexico may be considered to participate in the National Teams of our country”he added.
This statement also comes at a time when several footballers of different nationalities have expressed their desire to play for the Mexican national team. In Liga MX there are several cases of Argentines and even that of Matheus Dória, a Brazilian who also wants to suit up with El Tri.
In response to this statement, some fans point out that This defense has been developed around the naturalization of Julián Quiñones. But they made the reservation thatIn the case of Santiago Giménez there was not the same firmness to cut distinctions of this style.
