The president of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador is visiting Baja California and on his first day of work he offered his Friday morning conference in Tijuana, on the border of that state with California, in the United States.
AMLO criticized the anti-immigrant policies of the governors of the states of Florida, Ron DeSantis, and Texas, Greg Abbott, pointing out that “they have to do with political campaigns” in the United States.
“Mexico has made some complaints, especially regarding the attitude of the governor of Texas. The attitude of the California government is different from that of Texas,” said López Obrador.
Abbot ordered the placement of buoys in the middle of the Rio Grande to contain the migrants, while DeSantis has promised, if elected president, to send US special forces to Mexico to confront the drug cartels.
“The governor of Texas is very anti-immigrant, just like the governor of Florida, who is applying measures against migrants,” said López Obrador.
Said The decisions of both governors against migrants have to do with political campaigns and that is why “De Santis is very low, he does not rise and he fell in the polls” after he applied anti-immigrant measures.
The president of Mexico highlighted his relationship with the United States government, pointing out that Mexico is the first trading partner with the United States and remembering that foreign direct investment “is coming to the country like never before,” adding up to almost $33 billion dollars. in 2023.
Regarding the great work that is going to be built at the Otay checkpoint in Tijuana, López Obrador said that the part that corresponds to Mexico will be finished before concluding his administration.
“From Tijuana I call on the United States authorities to do the same because they are very behind and we are going to finish first. If the part that corresponds to the United States is not completed, we will not have the possibility of using this step, which is very necessary due to the increase in traffic and merchandise on this border,” he noted.
