Donald Trump referred to the Latino vote, immigration and his aspirations if he is re-elected in an interview on Univision

The Spanish-language television network Univision broadcast an individual interview of donald trump in Mar-a-Lago conducted by journalist Enrique Acevedo on Thursday night, where the former president spoke about the Latino vote, immigration, his plans if he is re-elected to the Presidency and the situation on the border, among many other topics.

The full interview in Spanish was shared by Univision on YouTube:

Trump referred to the Latino vote When answering a question from Acevedo that mentioned that the former president has the support of 42% of Latino voters: “Well, the Latino vote is so incredible because they are incredible people. “They have incredible skills, incredible energy and are very entrepreneurial.”

He added later: “They are just great people, incredible people. And they also want security if they are in the United States, Mexico or anywhere else. They feel strong in terms of security and we provide it to them. And yes, according to surveys, no one has ever seen anything like this.”

Trump said that Security is the most important thing for Latinos and he referred to security at the border: “I think the most important thing now is safety. They want security. They want to have a border. We have a huge number of people, for example, from Mexico. They live here, either permanently or part-time. They don’t want people coming in and breaking into their house or doing bad things. They want to see security. “They want to have a border.”

Regarding the judicial processes he faces, Trump reiterated that they will not make him abandon his electoral campaign and once again described them as “political persecution.”

“I think people know that it is political persecution. It is a political deception. This is Biden, the worst president in the history of our country. We have never had a president so stupid, so incompetent and so corrupt from the point of view of what he is doing. “They have weaponized the Department of Justice, they have weaponized the FBI, and they have come against me with the worst accusations.”

Defense of the separation of migrant families

Former President Trump offered on Thursday a new defense of his administration’s decision to separate thousands of migrant families at the southern border, arguing that it served as an effective deterrent.

“When you hear that they are going to separate you from your family, you don’t come. When you think you are going to come to the United States with your family, you come. And we did it for a period of time of family separation and others too, by the way,” Trump said in the interview with Univision.

“But, you know, it’s a little different with us. But we did family separation,” Trump continued. “Many people didn’t come. It prevented hundreds of thousands of people from coming because when they hear about family separation, they say well, let’s not go. And they didn’t go.”

Trump repeated his claim that Family separation was a practice first implemented during the Obama administration, although multiple fact-checkers have debunked that claim before.

In 2018, the Trump administration implemented a “zero tolerance” policy for those who crossed the southern border illegally, which meant that hundreds of migrant children were separated from their parents, who were taken to court to initiate criminal proceedings.

He also talked about how the United States has an insecure border with Mexico that has caused an influx of 15 million people, many of them of dubious origin.

“Many people come from prisons. Many people come from mental institutions and asylums. That is the silence of the lambs. That’s Hannibal Lecter. Have you ever heard of Hannibal Lecter? He is not a good person,” according to Trump.

Trump suggests he could investigate his opponents if re-elected

Trump said in the interview that could use the government to investigate his political opponents if he is re-elected, suggesting he would be fair game after the Justice Department charged him in two separate cases earlier this year.

“If they do this, and they already have, but if they move forward, yes, it could certainly happen the other way around. It could certainly happen the other way around,” Trump said. “What they did was take the genie out of the box. You understand that they have done something that no one thought would happen.”

The former president has repeatedly claimed that the charges against him are a form of election interference, arguing that President Biden and his Justice Department are seeking to harm his chances of winning the 2024 election.

Trump currently faces a total of 91 federal and state charges ranging from fraud to election interference.
