The G7 Foreign Ministers made this Wednesday (11/8/2023) a call to implement a humanitarian pause in Gaza, in order to facilitate the creation of a safe corridor that allows the immediate entry of help. Furthermore, the G7 calls for doing everything possible to avoid an escalation and expansion of the conflict in the Near East.
“We support humanitarian breaks and corridors to facilitate urgent aid, the movement of civilians and the release of hostages” captured by Hamas, the ministers say in a joint statement after their meeting in Japan, in which they also highlight Israel’s “right to defend itself and its people, complying with international legislation.”
“We highlight the need to take urgent measures to address the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “All parties must allow unhindered humanitarian aid for civilians, including food, water, medical care, fuel and shelter, and access for humanitarian workers,” the joint statement reads.
“Two-State Solution”
Furthermore, the G7 condemns the “terrorist attacks” by the Islamist group Hamas and “other groups”. The G7 foreign ministers call for “the immediate release of the hostages”, call for respect for international laws and commit to “get involved” in the search for “a lasting and stable solution in Gaza to achieve lasting peace.”
“For the first time, the members of the G7 have been able to adopt a common message on the current situation” in Israel and Palestine, which highlights “the importance of a humanitarian step” and that a peace process continues in which “the two-state solution is the only viable option,” said the Japanese Foreign Minister, for her part. , Yoko Kamikawa, at a press conference.
