The success of the Eagles of America in this 2023 Apertura Tournament is largely due to the performance of a cohesive group of players, but also André Jardine’s work in the technical chair.

With many doubts and after the surprising resignation of Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz a month earlier, in June 2023 the Brazilian André Jardine assumed the technical direction of Club América, supported by his structured work with Atlético San Luis.

The results are in sight: the azulcrema team is once again a candidate to be champion of the Liga MX and is also close to breaking a points record established a few years ago.

But also, Jardine has managed to improve the numbers left by his predecessor Tano Ortiz on the América bench.

Although the Argentine Ortiz always had the love, appreciation and admiration of the América fans, the manner of his resignation and joining a direct rival such as Rayados de Monterrey, has not been liked in some sectors, including the board.

For these reasons, they have quickly forgotten their great ways of directing and leading to embrace the work of the current coach.

André Jardine makes Fernando Ortiz forget

Counting the Leagues Cup, André Jardine has 14 victories in 20 games in front of the team; Leaving aside the summer tournament, they are 12 games won out of 16 in the 2023 Apertura Tournament.

For his part, Fernando Ortiz, who started as interim coach after the dismissal of Santiago Solari, in his first 20 performances, between the Clausura and Apertura 2022, achieved 10 victories.

Added to that, with André Jardine at the helm, the Águilas del América managed to win all the Liga MX classics this semester.

Club América, a steamroller in Classics

This 2023 Apertura Tournament has also been a total success in the confrontations against direct and historical rivals.

Club América dominated, convinced, enjoyed and took the three points in each of the crucial matches, the so-called Clásicos, adding the confrontation against Rayados, which has become one of the greats of modern soccer in the Liga MX.

  • Young Classic: Cruz Azul 2-3 Club América
  • National Classic: Club América 4-0 Chivas de Guadalajara
  • Capital Classic: Club América 1-0 Pumas de la UNAM

On the horizon the Águilas also have another challenge and it is the Tigres de la UANL, another that with effort and results over the last 20 years has become a heavyweight in the MX League.

If they beat the cats, they will be able to surpass the point record (41) in the same short tournament in Mexico. Will they achieve it?
