The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall of three lots of meat meal and brown rice formula because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The lots include five-pound bags, 15-pound bags, and 40-pound bags that have an expiration date of June 12, 2024, so if you are a pet owner, you should pay attention to this announcement.

According to a notice, Mid America Pet Food of Mount Pleasant, Texas, is recalling three batches of Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Select Beef Meal & Brown Rice Formula after random sampling found salmonella, which can make pets and people who come into contact with it sick.

According to the FDA, pets infected with Salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some may lose their appetite, have fever, and abdominal pain. Humans can suffer similar symptoms and, in some cases, suffer from more serious ailments.

“Salmonella can affect animals that eat the products and there is a risk to humans when handling contaminated pet products.”especially if they have not washed their hands thoroughly after coming into contact with the products or any surface exposed to these products,” the statement says.

According to the information, salmonella infection is rare in dogs and while the risk of a dog contracting salmonella may be low, health experts warn that they can be carriers and make their owners sick.

The FDA says it has not received any reports of humans or pets getting sick from dog food.

For those who purchased the recalled dog food, the FDA recommends disposing of it in a way that is not accessible to children, pets, or wildlife.
