David Benavídez, although he was not happy with the idea, predicted that Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez will knock out with a body blow to Jaime Munguía in the possible confrontation on May 5 of next year in a new defense of his undisputed super middleweight championship.

In an interview for Fight Hype, Benavídez expressed that the fight will be competitive and harder for Canelo Álvarez because Munguía has heart, but he assured that the duel against him is what everyone wants to see and they will not be satisfied until it happens.

“I think it is a competitive fight (between Canelo and Munguía), because they can say what they want about Munguía, but he has heart. He will continue fighting until he is knocked out or the fight is over. So it’s going to be a good fight. I think it’s going to be a little harder for Canelo than people think because Munguía is a tough guy, because he keeps attacking you. But in the end, Canelo stops him with a body shot,” he said.

“If (Canelo) fights him (Munguía) on May 5, that will be a good fight. It will be a good fight for the people, for the Mexican public. It will be two Mexicans giving each other. But I think everyone wants Canelo against me. “People won’t be satisfied until we make that fight,” he added.

It should be noted that, according to Salvador Rodríguez of ESPN, Canelo Álvarez added Jaime Munguía, mandatory challenger of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), in his list of possible opponents and He is considering it for his first fight on Cinco de Mayo in 2024while David Benavídez could be next only if he beats Demetrius Andrade.

Although fans and many experts in the sport would like to see this great fight, Canelo Álvarez has not shown real interest and We will have to wait if in March 2024 the Mexican finally fulfills his obligation with the WBC or chooses Munguía for their fight in May.

For the moment, David Benavídez He will first have to beat Demetrius Andrade on November 25 and keep his interim title super middleweight of the World Boxing Council (WBC) because he could be the Guadalajara’s next opponent in what would mark his second fight with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).
