Goal fair in the Liga MX: up to nine goals were scored in Club Puebla's epic victory

Puebla came from behind to beat León 5-4 this Friday and stay alive in the fight for one of the four tickets to the playoffs of the Apertura 2023 Mexican soccer tournament.

At the beginning of the sixteenth day, the penultimate of the regular phase, Guillermo Martínez, with a hat trick, Diego de Buen and Miguel Sansores scored for Pueblawhile the Uruguayans Federico Viñas and Nicolás ‘Diente’ López, and the Colombian Omar Fernández scored for León.

The result sent Puebla from fifteenth to eleventh place with 19 pointsthe same as Mazatlán FC, which in the tenth step has the last ticket to the play-offs; León remained in ninth place with 20 units, which also gives access to reclassification.

The León of Argentine coach Nicolás Larcamón dominated the first half and in the 10th minute took the lead in a play in which The ‘Diente’ lowered a service in the area that Viñas converted from the right to make it 0-1.

Larcamón’s team dominated the game, however, on their first arrival the Pueblans tied. Diego de Buen made a deep pass to the 19th that Guillermo Martínez converted to make it 1-1 before the departure of goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota.

Despite suffering a tie, León continued to be the most dangerous team in the first half and at 45 the Ecuadorian Ángel Mena took out goalkeeper Jesús Rodríguez to crossing a service with which the Uruguayan López made it 1-2.

A minute later, in stoppage time, Iván Moreno, from the right, sent a ball into the area that Viñas, with the sole of his left foot scored 1-3 at 45+1.

León disappeared for much of the second half and Puebla made the comeback. At minute 51, Martínez achieved 2-3 with a great front and in the 79th the Colombian Brayan Angulo took a free kick that Diego de Buen headed in to make it 3-3.

After that, the Argentine Gabriel Carabajal put a filtered cross to Martínez, who upon entering the area made a shot over Cota to make it 4-3 at 83.

El León reacted at 90+1 when Mena returned a wall to Fernández, who with one touch passed the ball over to Rodríguez for 4-4.

But in a counterattack that started from Rodríguez’s area, Sansores snatched a ball from a defender to make the final 5-4 without pressure.

The sixteenth day will continue this Saturday with the visits of the San Luis to the champions Tigres UANL, from Tijuana to the leader América, from the Rayados del Monterrey to the Tuzos del Pachuca and from Cruz Azul to the Chivas del Guadalajara.

The matches will end this Sunday with the duels Pumas UNAM-Atlas, Necaxa-Mazatlán FC, Santos Laguna-Toluca and Juárez FC-Querétaro.
