China condemns the passage of US ships through the Taiwan Strait

The Chinese Army condemned the passage of the American warship Peralta and the Canadian ship Ottawa through the Taiwan Strait, at the same time that the Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong is carrying out maneuvers in waters near the island.

“The destroyer USS Rafael Peralta and the Canadian frigate Ottawa sailed through the waters of the Taiwan Strait on November 1″, causing a public stir,” said military spokesman Shi Yi in a statement published today on the official account of the Chinese Army’s Eastern Theater of Operations on the Weibo social network – similar to X, censored in the Asian country.

According to Shi, the Eastern Theater of Operations organized “troops to follow and monitor” American warships.

“The forces of the Eastern Theater are always on high alert, ready to defend national sovereignty, security and regional peace and stability,” the spokesperson added.

The presence of the warships in the area coincides with maneuvers led by the Shandong aircraft carrier of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA, Chinese Army) in waters near the island of Taiwan.

Taiwan also detects Chinese ships and aircraft

These exercises, which began on October 26, have been reinforced with the participation of additional PLA aviation and naval forces in recent days.

Taiwan’s defense authorities reported this Wednesday that they detected 43 PLA aircraft and seven vessels near the island, many of which crossed the so-called median line of the Taiwan Strait.

In September,Taipei reported record numbers of Chinese Army incursionsafter which he denounced “military harassment” by China.

Taiwan – where the Chinese nationalist army retreated after defeat by communist troops in the civil war – has been governed autonomously since 1949, although China claims sovereignty over the island, which it considers a rebellious province for whose ”reunification” has not ruled out the use of force.
