US cities that will experience frigid temperatures and snow this week

Although the calendar still shows fall, winter weather has already appeared in much of the US, bringing with it freezing temperatures and snowfall in several regions.

A cold front that is moving across the country will cause temperatures to fall this week from record highs of 80 degrees to below zero, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service.

Some regions will experience temperatures in the 30s, 20s and even single digits, according to reports.

Heavy snow has already fallen from Colorado to South Dakota. Six inches accumulated in some areas and up to 19 inches in others, officials said.

He Denver International Airport saw about 7.5 inches of snow over the weekend, while some areas south of the Denver metro area fell between 10 and 11 inches on Sunday.

Although the snow storm has passed, the cold is moving eastfrom Denver to New York City.

As of Monday morning, 26 states from California to Pennsylvania were under frost advisories, with freezing temperatures in some parts of the Rocky Mountains. Record temperatures were also expected in the Great Plains on Monday morning.

The frigid air mass will move into the Midwest and South on Tuesday morning, causing the first frost of the season in major cities such as Chicago, Indianapolis and Nashville.

By Wednesday, the frost will move further east and south, bringing cold temperatures to regions near Dallas, Birmingham and Atlanta.

The cold blast will hit the Interstate 95 corridor on Thursday, with temperatures expected in the 30s for major Northeast cities such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DCand freezing temperatures for the city suburbs.

The cold could also bring the first lake effect snow of the season from Wisconsin to western New York state.

Warnings have also been issued winter storm for michiganwhere some areas could see up to 10 inches of snow.

A fast-moving system will also bring a dusting of snow from North Dakota to Minnesota and southern Wisconsin. Cities like Minneapolis and Milwaukee could also see their first snowfall of the season, and snow is also possible in Chicago.
