“Checo” Pérez helmet auction raised more than $90,000 for Hurricane Otis victims

The auction organized by Sergio “Checo” Pérez through his foundation to help those affected by the passage of Hurricane Otis in Mexican territory was carried out with resounding success. The Red Bull driver raised nothing more and nothing less than one million seven hundred thousand pesos for the helmet he wore during the Mexico City Grand Prix.

In just a few hours the auction was completed. It allowed the man from Guadalajara to raise just over $90,000 for the helmet that was designed by the Austrian team. especially so that “Checo” Pérez will use it last weekend in the race that took place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in the Mexican capital.

All proceeds from this charity event carried out by the “Checo” Pérez Foundation will be used to help those affected by the torrential rains that have caused serious damage to much of the coast of Guerrero. So far, more than 40 deaths and almost 60 missing people have been recorded..

Although “Checo” Pérez did not have the expected result on a sporting level during the weekend when he was left out early in the Mexico City Grand Prix after receiving an accidental impact from Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), the man from Guadalajara was able to do his bit in a difficult time in the Aztec country due to Hurricane Otis.

A special helmet

The winner of the auction of the helmet that Sergio “Checo” Pérez used during the Mexico City Grand Prix will be left with a very striking collector’s item. And it is that The Red Bull team strived to make a design that captured Mexican tradition paying honor to a tradition deeply rooted in that country such as the Day of the Dead.

The holiday that is celebrated every November 2 was the center of the design of the helmet worn by the Mexican pilot. The orange color predominated and the design was crowned by the marigold flower in the entire center of the helmet. This flower is often used to decorate graves and the offerings that families leave for their dead.

Additionally, the piece had the motto used by “Checo” Pérez: “Never Give Up”, which translated into Spanish would be “Never give up”. Other decorations on the helmet, for which they paid just over $90,000, were the famous papel picado in yellow, green, orange and pink.as well as Maguey plants.
