Andy Ruiz reveals that he underwent surgery and his return to the ring will be delayed until 2024

Andy Ruiz, former unified heavyweight champion, announced on his social networks that He underwent surgery a few days agoalthough he did not specify where, and that his return to the ring will be delayed until 2024.

In a video published on his Instagram account, Ruiz expressed that he was back in the gym after five days without training and that he feels greatso he hopes to return to action next year, although the opponent is still unknown.

“Hey guys, I just finished working out. Five days after my surgery and we are back in the gymfeeling good, feeling blessed and I can’t wait to get back in the ring,” he said.

“2024 is my year, honey, it’s my year. Remember that. I had a little setback for a big comeback and come on, baby. Let’s do it,” she added.

It should be noted that Andy Ruiz has not seen action since September 2022 when he defeated Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz by unanimous decision. After the victory, the World Boxing Council (WBC) ordered an eliminatory fight between the Mexican American and Deontay Wilder to choose Tyson Fury’s next challenger, but it was canceled by the organization after both parties failed to reach an agreement.

Last July, the former heavyweight champions were in a constant give-and-take in interviews and social media after failing to agree on negotiations for the showdown. According to Ruiz’s father and manager, Wilder offered only 30% of the purse and they want to receive 50% ($10 million dollars) to accept the fight.

The Destroyer also tried to close a confrontation with Tyson Fury, but The WBC champion did not accept because he was supposedly asking for $20 million dollars. Furthermore, the Mexican-American showed interest in the trilogy with Anthony Joshua, after negotiations with Wilder failed, and did not receive a response from the British.

Andy Ruiz, 33, will now have to wait until 2024 to find a new opponent and make his return to the ring. The Mexican American He has a record of 35 victories, 22 of them by knockout, and two defeats as a professional.
