For 27 years, Democrat Earl Francis Blumenauer has represented Oregon, but after serving 14 terms in the House he says he is no longer thinking about running for re-election.
At 75 years old, the representative in Congress issued a statement through which He recognizes that next year he will not run for another term, as he is satisfied with his achievements.
“I am proud of the progress we have made. From implementing the largest climate and infrastructure investments in American history, helping 100,000 restaurants survive the COVID-19 crisis, expanding healthcare coverage for millions, and making cannabis reform a dominant position in American politics,” says part of the document.
Currently, Blumenauer is a member of the Ways and Means Committee, ranking member of the Commerce subcommittee, member of the Health subcommittee, and ranking member of the Budget Committee.
In this regard, he is proud to have met his objectives for almost three decades working for the benefit of his state.of his party co-religionists and mainly of the country.
“From my first minutes on Capitol Hill I have worked to promote a more civil and functional Congress. From transit benefits for House employees to the creation of a staff gym to a hand-delivered letter to every new member of Congress, I have tried to make the Capitol Hill community more livable. However, I’m not sure that two more years in Congress in this climate is the best way to approach things that I care about,” he said during an interview with the weekly Willamette Week in Portland.
Awaiting the end of his term in January 2025, Blumenauer He assured that he does not plan to support any member of his party in the dispute for the position that will remain vacant.
It should be noted that Prior to his arrival in the House of Representatives in 1996, Earl Blumenauer served on the Portland City Council and also as a commissioner of Multnomah County in Oregon.
Unlike other of his colleagues, the Democrat prefers to continue supporting the members of his community, but this time away from the House.
