Ajax remains in the midst of a crisis of unprecedented sporting results in the Amsterdam team who this Monday confirmed that he will have a new technical director. This is coach John Van’t Schip, who has slight experience in Mexican soccer after having coached Chivas de Guadalajara.

The overwhelming defeat suffered this weekend at the hands of PSV (5-2), with three goals from Mexican forward Hirving “Chucky” Lozanofinished sinking Ajax into the last place in the Eredivisie standings after having played eight games in which they have a record of just one win, two draws and five losses.

Before this panorama The club’s board announced the arrival of John Van’t Schip to take the place of interim coach Hedwiges Maduro, who in turn took charge of Ajax after the dismissal of Maurice Steijn. With Van’t Schip, the Australian Michael Valkanis and Maduro himself will be on the bench as assistants.

John Van’t Schip has just coached the Greek national team between 2019 and 2021 and among his experiences as technical director are his time with Ajax itself in its lower categories as well as in the Netherlands national team. He was also at Melbourne City and Zwolle, but also had a stint in Liga MX in 2012.

On that occasion he was in charge of the Chivas de Guadalajara for the Apertura tournament that season. In command of the Sacred Flock, he played a total of 23 matches in all competitions with a balance of eight wins, six draws and nine losses..

Now, at the head of Ajax, the 59-year-old coach takes the reins with a contract until June 30, 2025. His first game as coach of the Amsterdam team will be for the Dutch championship this Thursday against Volendam one of their rivals at the bottom of the leaderboard.

“I am very happy that the signing has been completed and I am already looking forward to starting at the club where it all began for me”acknowledged John Van’t Schip, remembering that he started his career as a player in the Amsterdam team and a few years later as a coach.

“From the conversations I’ve had with everyone involved in this I have a good feeling. “Ajax must quickly take the sporting path upwards and I am happy to be able to contribute to that.”continued the strategist.

Although the season is just beginning and Ajax has only played eight of the 10 games so far, the Amsterdam team urgently needs to shake off the bad results and start adding points to scare away the specter of relegation as soon as possible.
