Brian Rodríguez was seriously injured and on crutches after Club América’s victory against Rayados de Monterrey. Rodríguez accused Jesús Gallardo of intentionally injuring him.

“His words were ‘If you keep stepping on it, I’m going to break you.’ If you keep doing taco or hooking, or doing what you were doing, What it was like to play soccer, they were going to kick me and that’s how it happened. Let them take the measures they have to take,” said Brian Rodríguez after the game.

Rodríguez was asked if he believed the play had been intentional, to which he responded without hesitation.

“Clearly. I don’t see it any other way. It was like that and while I was on the floor, a lot of insults and I don’t want to talk about it,” he emphasized without hesitation.

The Águilas del América player asked the Liga MX authorities to review and investigate so that they can determine a possible sanction for the Rayados del Monterrey footballer.

“The truth is that unfortunately I had a run-in with Gallardo and I hope that measures are taken that have to be taken. Within football I think that cannot be allowed and I received many insults in a corner,” he highlighted.

Jonathan Dos Santos, Brian Rodríguez’s teammate, called Gallardo “bad” and that he committed the foul with the intention of injuring Rodríguez.

“That’s how Gallardo left it and told him before the play, that he was going to blow it up. That’s how he left it, so that later they say that it’s not bad blood. This is how it will go for Gallardo,” Dos Santos told TUDN.

Uruguayan Jonathan Rodríguez scored two goals this Saturday in leader América’s 3-0 win over Monterrey on the fourteenth day of the Mexican Apertura tournament.

Rodríguez has five goals in the tournament. The victory was completed by Alejandro Zendejas.

Brian Rodríguez joins the absence of Chilean Diego Valdés, recovering from an illness. Despite this, the team has the potential to seek three points against San Luis, with an attack line led by Quiñones and the Mexican Henry Martín.
