Ford Motor Company announced that it has reached a agreement with Tesla Motors. Under it, owners of electric vehicles from the oval brand will have access to a network of more than 12,000 Superchargers Tesla located in the United States and Canada.
This collaboration will allow Ford to double the number of fast chargers available to its electric vehicle customers starting in spring 2024.
“This is great news for our customers who will have unprecedented access to the largest network of fast chargers in the US and Canada with more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers plus more than 10,000 fast chargers already on the network of BlueOval charging,” says Jim Farley, president and CEO of Ford.
Tesla has designed a special adapter which will allow vehicles Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E and E-Transitequipped with the combined charging system (CCS), access the V3 Superchargers of the company dedicated to 100% production of electrified models.
Tesla Strategic Partnership
Starting in 2025, Ford will equip its next electric models with the NACS charging port, thus eliminating the need to use an adapter to directly access Tesla Superchargers.
“Widespread access to fast charging is absolutely vital to our growth as an electric vehicle brand, and this groundbreaking agreement comes as we are ramping up production of our popular Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, and preparing to launch a series of the next generation of electric vehicles starting in 2025,” Farley concluded.
Finally, Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s senior director of charging infrastructure commented that the company “has spent the last 10 years building an industry-leading charging network that enables the freedom to travel and provides charging confidence for our Tesla owners.”
“We are excited to fulfill our mission of accelerating the global transition to sustainable energy by welcome owners of Ford and other electric vehicles that adopt NACS to our thousands of Superchargers in North America,” he concluded.
