The community of Guerrero, a state located in the South of Mexico, continues to fight to move forward in the face of the disaster caused by Hurricane Otis and therefore requires solidarity both from their compatriots who live inside and outside the country to send them help.
Faced with this scenario, Fuerza Migrante, a non-partisan binational movement made up of Mexicans living abroad, responded to the call and through a message published on its social networks invited the Mexican and Latino community living in the United States to send their donations. and financial support through various accounts enabled by the Mexican Red Cross.
Since Thursday night, after Category 5 Hurricane Otis made landfall in Guerrero, Hundreds of thousands of inhabitants of the area were left without communication and without the basics to get ahead, such as drinking water and food.
Although elements of the Mexican Army led by the president of the nation moved to the affected area, The meteor caused serious damage on the roads of Guerrero, as well as at the Acapulco International Airport, a situation that still makes it difficult to supply food and water to the majority of the population that has practically lost its heritage. since many properties were underwater or deteriorated enough to be inhabited again and must be demolished.
Although on Friday afternoon it was announced that the Mexican government has already collected the Catastrophic Bond (Catbond) that it issued in 2020 through the World Bank (WB). for a total of $485 million dollars to cover risks associated with natural disasters, That money is insufficient given the magnitude of the disaster.
Regarding the delivery of food, two army aircraft loaded with 3 tons of food and water landed at the Acapulco airport, which has been reopened, but only to transport some stranded tourists. who seek to return to their homes.
It should be noted that Most of the limited support for those affected is focusing on Acapulco, but there is a large swath of towns on the Costa Grande about which very little is known.since the restoration of electrical energy and communications is progressing slowly.
