A man was trapped overnight inside a bank jewelry vault at World Diamond Tower in Manhattan., in New York City. The dome was made of concrete reinforced with steel.
The building at 580 Fifth Avenue is known as World Diamond Tower, it houses several jewelry stores, the man just wanted to access his safe deposit boxbut life played a bad joke on him, because without further explanation he was trapped in the vault.
Firefighters and police officers were in communication with the manwhom they saw through a security camera.
The night of the incident, firefighters tried to rescue him, however, They aborted the mission, according to what they say for security reasons.
Fortunately, the vault had a timer activated and opened by itself on Wednesday morningauthorities said.
According to John Sarrocco, the city’s deputy fire chief, firefighters have tools capable of breaking through the vault’s 30-inch-thick reinforced concrete walls.
“The process of opening a breach in the vault wall began,” he said at a press conference at the site.
After 10 hours, The firefighters reached the steel plate and gave up going forward for fear of injuring the man inside.
“The problem with the iron is that we would have to use blowtorches, which would affect the interior environment where the man was,” he explained.
The doors opened at 7 a.m., as planned, and the man emerged unharmed, Sarrocco said.
