The idea for the film “Top Gun” in 1986 arose from an article in a magazine about the elite program in the United States Navy in which a group of pilots were trained; The sequel to the film, released in 2022, was even more successful in theaters and generated interest in a new generation to learn more about these training sessions. Now that will be brought to the small screen, but in a documentary series prepared by the channel Nat Geoand which will be titled “Top Gun: The Next Generation”.

The series will feature spectacular aerial sequences, as well as interviews with several young pilots. Tom McDonaldof National Geographicexpressed his enthusiasm for this project: “With so many millions of fans of the film “Top Gun” around the world, I was immediately drawn to this series: not only are these elite jet pilots extremely skilled and impressive, but they all have very different stories to tell. With exclusive and unprecedented access to Nat Geothis series promises to be an exhilarating, visually stunning and fascinating journey into the intensely competitive world of elite aviation.”

The Serie “Top Gun: The Next Generation” will be directed by Lana Salah; the premiere in Nat Geo could be in the fall of 2024. It is not yet known if Tom Cruise -protagonist of the two successful films- will serve as narrator in the episodes of the program.
