President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that Mexico carries out “work with all governments and organizations”to try to ensure that the two Mexicans who were taken hostage by the Hamas group are released as soon as possible.
“We are helping and we have communication with the families and We are working with all governments, with all organizations because we want to save the lives of these two people, but we are talking to everyone, not just one part, we don’t even have anything firm yet. We are doing work that also requires stealth in this case and acting with great responsibility, because what we want is to save lives,” he said in his morning conference.
Last weekend, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Alicia Bárcena, confirmed that Ilana Gritzewsky and Orión Hernández are the two Mexicans who were kidnapped by the terrorist group Hamas since last October 7, the date on which hostilities in the Middle East intensified.
This Monday, October 16, the spokesperson for the presidency of Mexico, Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, had announced that López Obrador’s government sought to establish a dialogue with the Hamas group to manage the release of the two Mexicans.
From the National Palace in Mexico City, López Obrador avoided answering what the Government of Mexico would ask the Islamist group Hamas to free the hostages.
“You already want me to answer things that are not appropriate, precisely because What we want is to rescue those who are detained”, he commented to the questions of a reporter in the Treasury room of the National Palace.
López Obrador also refused to modify his position of neutrality and call for dialogue when the press asked him for his opinion on the criticism of Israel by his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, and the possibility of elevating the diplomatic representation of Mexico to the rank of Embassy. in Palestine.
“Now is not the time, the most urgent thing is to stop the war,” he argued.
