This was revealed by Mexican media such as the newspaper Reforma, when they announced that none other than José Gil Caro Quinteroalias “El Pelo Chino” and nephew of Rafael Caro Quintero.

However, despite an anonymous complaint about his presence in a restaurant known as “Burrito Amor,” apparently municipal police and elements of the Navy Secretariat let him go after a bribe of 15 million pesos (just over $834,000).

In this regard, the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation and issued the following statement: “Elements of the Tulum Police, as well as elements of the Ministerial Police, arrived to inspect the alleged suspect, who was in the company of a woman, “The same thing that they did not make available to the agent of the Public Ministry.”

The document was later deleted from its digital site and, hours later, it issued another communication in which it assured that the person they let escape was not “a leader of organized crime,” adding that “there was no similarity in face, nose and mouth” between that person and the alleged boss.

The video that sparked the controversy

After this new version, A video was leaked on social networks, where José Gil Caro Quintero allegedly appears inside the restaurant, along with armed men talking with the authorities.
