Since October of last year, millions of inflation stimulus check cards were sent to eligible residents in California; however, The entity reported that there are still $600 million dollars that have not been claimed.

- Have filed the 2020 tax return before October 15, 2021.
- Have requested an ITIN number and file the 2020 declaration before February 15, 2022.
- Meet California Adjusted Gross Income limits.
- Not be claimed as a dependent in the 2020 tax year.
- Have been a California resident for six months or more in the 2020 tax year.
- Have been a resident of California at the time the payment was issued.
- Confirm to the FTB that the home address is up to date.
At the time this card was issued, many taxpayers did not realize that they had it, therefore, they were not activated, the entity reported that Residents who did not use the funds were sent a second letter from the California Board of Taxation remembering its activation.
Now, if you have the card, these are the steps you must follow and the information they will ask you to activate it:
- Step 1: Call 800-240-0223.
- Step 2: Verify your identity information, plus the last six numbers of your Social Security Number.
- Step 3: Have the last six numbers of your ITIN number on hand, if you filed taxes with one of these.
- Step 4: Have on hand the 16 numbers of the debit card you received, plus the three security numbers on the back of the card
- Step 5: Create a four-number PIN that only you know.
Can money be lost if the card is not activated?
The amount allocated on the card for each taxpayer will remain regardless of whether the recipient has not used it. According to California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) When you activate the card, the money should appear.
However, the cards have an expiration date which is specified just above the recipient’s name, if it is not activated and used before that time, the card will no longer work.
