At 32 years old and a decade in the Mexican national team, Raúl Jiménez is called to be a leader in the locker room and protagonist in an offensive front that has figures such as Henry Martín (Club América) or Santiago Giménez (Feyenoord).

Some sports critics have pointed out that Jiménez does not have adequate football experience to be the starting ‘9’, although ‘Lobo’ has joined with the support of the last technicians who have been on the bench: Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino , Diego Cocca and now Jaime ‘Jimmy’ Lozano.

Leaving this aside, Raúl Jiménez revealed that the last wish he wants while wearing the Mexican national team shirt is to be able to play in the 2026 World Cup.which will also be played in the Aztec country together with the United States and Canada.

“It is something that I want to do, that I would like and that I am working towards, to get to the World Cup in good shape, in good physical shape. He would arrive at 35 years old, but age is just a number,” commented the forward in an interview for TUDN.

The Raúl Jiménez’s call to the last World Cup was full of controversies since he was injured with pubalgia and had no playing rhythm: almost six months without playing for Wolverhampton.

There was pressure for Tata Martino to withdraw his call-up due to injury and include Santi Giménez, who was having a good first season with Feyenoord and also arrived with a lot of pace.

Finally, the Argentine coach opted for Jiménez, whom he did not use properly due to the obviousness of his physical problems.

“The game I played the most was 25 minutes, when it was my turn to enter I did so with the greatest willingness to be able to help and do the best for the team. It didn’t go the way everyone wanted it to happen,” Raúl Jiménez said optimistically on this point.

When will the 2026 World Cup be played?

The magic of the World Cup will return in 2026 with the promise that it will have a great organization from three countries that share borders and a vast, rich culture: Mexico, Canada and the United States.

Unlike the last installment, the World Cup returns to its usual months in June and July.

In addition, the twenty-third edition of the tournament will be the first to feature 48 teams, which will play in 16 cities throughout the three countries that host the competition.

Mexico, as the host country, will not need to go through the usual Concacaf qualifying round, like Canada and the US, although this is no excuse for the demands that are asked of El Tri.

Both fans and managers of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) expect better results and play that will lead them to give a good performance in the 2026 World Cup.
