Authorities reported that two people died and another was injured after a small plane crashed into the roof of a home in Oregon On tuesday night.
Several people called 911 reporting seeing a small plane spiraling towards the ground and crashing in Newberg, about 23 miles southwest of Portland, just before 7 p.m. local time, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said in a Facebook post.
Firefighters were sent to the area and discovered that The plane had crashed into the roof of a residential house. Part of the plane was found inside the house and the rest in the backyard, according to authorities.
Initially, Firefighters found two occupants on the plane, one of whom was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupant was transported by helicopter to a Portland trauma hospital with serious injuries.
After the crews were able to gain additional access to the aircraft, They discovered a third occupant of the plane who had also died.
Firefighters initially did not believe anyone was inside the home when the plane crashed, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said. They conducted multiple searches of the residence and confirmed there were no occupants.
However, in subsequent interviews with the owners they revealed that There were several people inside the house when the plane crashed, but everyone was able to evacuate safelysaid the fire and rescue service.
The Red Cross provided assistance to the family, who authorities say have been displaced from their home.
It was not immediately clear what caused the accident.
“The TVF&R technical rescue team and urban search and rescue teams were activated to help manage the scene and ensure the structural stability of the home. Crews were also prepared to fight the fire in case the plane and house caught fire. Luckily, the plane and the home never caught fire,” the firefighters said.
The Newberg-Dundee Police Department is working with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said.
Firefighters were on scene by numerous agencies, including the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, Dundee Fire, Dayton Fire, Portland General Electric, Northwest Natural Gas, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
