Tributes paid to late Senator Dianne Feinstein at San Francisco City Hall

Many people turned out to pay their respects to the late Senator Dianne Feinstein on Wednesday at San Francisco City Hall, in a ceremony that followed the tradition in which the body of a deceased official is placed in a state building to allow the public to pay tribute. your respects.

Feinstein, who died last week at age 90, was born in San Francisco and was the city’s first female mayor, a position she held for 10 years. She subsequently served in the United States Senate for more than 30 years.

A memorial service will be held at City Hall on Thursday, but Feinstein’s office announced Wednesday that the public would no longer be invited to attend “due to increased security.” San Francisco authorities confirmed that only invited guests will be able to attend.

It is expected that President Joe Biden speaks at the memorial service with a recorded message.

Other expected speakers are Vice President Kamala Harristhe Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumerthe president emeritus of the Chamber Nancy Pelosi, the mayor of San Francisco London Breed and Eileen Marianogranddaughter of Dianne Feinstein.

The Senate floor will close on Thursday so that its members can attend the funeral service.

The Senate unanimously passed a resolution “honoring the life and legacy of Dianne Feinstein” ahead of the vigil to honor Feinstein in San Francisco.

A live streaming link is planned for those unable to attend. Following the service, the veteran senator will be buried in a private, family ceremony.

A plane from the president’s military fleet carrying Feinstein’s body, accompanied by Rep. Nancy Pelosi, arrived in San Francisco on Saturday night.

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed Laphonza Butler to fill Feinstein’s position on an interim basis, and she was sworn in Tuesday.
